Ok so I’m going to start introducing our new Soul Muzik artists to the world on my blog now. The first artist I would like you to meet would have to be the very talented “Adora”.
Born Thelma Adora Ukaegu some twenty years ago in a small town in Imo State in Eastern Nigeria to Modupe Ukaegu, a Civil Servant and Nwaoha Oliver “La Bruno” Ukaegu, a Singer/Radio DJ, Adora definitely has music running through her veins.
The first of three Children born to the young couple, Pop/Rock/Soul artist Adora vividly remembers accompanying her dad, La Bruno, to his recording studio from the tender age of four. La Bruno was an Afro Pop artist and band leader, popular in the Eastern part of Nigeria in the eighties and nineties.
After high-school, while waiting to gain admission to university, she worked briefly as an on-air personality at a popular radio station in Jos but her Mother was completely against her having a career in Music. In 2006 her brother told her of a commercial he heard on a popular Abuja radio station regarding a series of auditions for singers and instrumentalists. She made it to the audition against her Mums wishes. The audition turned out to be part of a Nationwide search to find band members for my “Soul band,” Out of hundreds of singers that auditioned as vocalists, she was one of four that made the cut.
For two years, Soul band not only backed me in concerts in and out of Nigeria, but also played more intimate gigs, such as Weddings, special events and occasionally backed some of my superstar friends. We also played every week at two of the hottest clubs in the city of Abuja thus becoming the most on-demand band in the city and environs.
Soul Muzik CEO, Deola Art Alade, who also happens to be my dear wife, took notice and eventually invited her to sign with the fledgling label as a solo recording artist. Currently, Adora is in the studio working on her debut album, which will be released in the second half of 2010 on the Soul Muzik imprint.
